Meteorite Adventures

The Quest for Space Treasures

Texas is a big place. It''s also a friendly place. Better yet, West Texas is flat and rock free: great features for meteorite hunting. However,  when it comes to meteorite research and fieldwork, Woody Allen was right—90% of success is just showing up.  Many times, I showed up and there was a farmer with an odd rock who wanted someone to tell him if it was a meteorite. Often, it was.

Once you leave the borders of the US, the dangers of travel increase but the odds of recovering a meteorite increase even more. This fact explains why serious meteorite hunters go globe-trotting for their goodies. I, however, am after a pleasant adventure, not just a successful recovery. So I choose to research meteorite finds and falls near locations I want to visit. When one zone looks promising, a trip ensues.

Meteorite hunting also tends to be a bit secretive. If I find a productive zone, I don''t want to spread the word and have a competitor end-run me. So I''ve only got a few links posted.
